Nanga Parbat Circuit Mazeno Pass Trek

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival, Islamabad to Chilas

Upon early morning arrival in Islamabad International airport, you will be met by our guide & transferred to Chilas on the Karakorum Highway.

Day 02: Fairy Meadow

This morning we will continue on the Karakorum Highway from Chilas to Raikot Bridge. From Raikot we will change into jeeps for a half an hour drive to Tato. At Tato we will start short a 2-3 hours trek to the lush green area of Fairy Meadows.

Day 03: Fairy Meadow Bayal Base Camp excursion

Hike to the base camp of Nanga Parbat. The hike takes us through the pine forest along the Raikot glacier. After about two hours we traverse the lateral moraine of the glacier and arrive the flat meadow of Bayal camping site. From here, we continue onto the old base camp of Nanga Parbat. Half an hour from here is German mountaineer Drexel's monument. Picnic lunch at 4,000 meters. Enjoy thrilling views of Nanga Parbat and its surrounding peaks. Later walk back to Fairy Meadows

Day 04: Gulmit Hunza

Return to Raikot. Travel to Gulmit in Upper Hunza valley.

Day 05: Karimabad Duiker

In the morning, a short drive to Borith Lake and a hike to Passu Glacier. We return Karimabad in Central Hunza by car and take a short jeep ride to Duiker, north of Karimabad village, for some stunning views. From here we hava a magnificent view of snow-covered peaks including Ultar (7388m), Rakaposhi (7788m) and Diran (7266m).

Day 06: Karimabad

Morning drive down to Karimabad and proceed to Hoper Nagar Valley. This is another fertile valley and its residents are predominantly Shia Muslim. A half day excursion to probably one of the world's fastest moving glaciers at Hoper. This glacier leads down from Karakoram Mountain range. You can hike down to Hoper glacier later return to Karimabad afternoon visit Baltit fort.

Day 07: Tarashing

In the morning drive to Astore valley, drive further to Trashing where your trek will start next day.

Day 08-09: Nanga Parbat Base camp

After an early breakfast we begin our trek to Nanga Parbat Base Camp. Walking up the valley, we traverse Tarashing Glacier & arrive at the lush green Rupal Camp. After a brief pause, we resume our medium ascent through the fertile meadows with a backdrop of Rupal Face of Nanga Parbat. From here there are views of Nanga Parbat Massif 8125m and the most difficult route to the summit of Nanga Parbat which traveled by the famous German mountaineer Herrlig Koffer.
Day for acclimatization.

Grade : Easy, Altitude : 3510 M.

Day 10: Shaigiri

Today in the start of trek we walk on the Bazin Glacier which takes about two hours. After crossing the glacier, we trek to the Rupal River. An hours walk will take us to a place called Herligkoffer Base Camp. After a short stay here we walk further for about an hour and reach at a place called Second Base Camp, another summer settlement. Our campsite Shaigiri is not very far from here after an hour`s walk we will arrive at Shaigiri. Enjoy the beautiful views of South Face. (5/6 hours, 3700m)

Day 11: Mazeno Base camp

Follow the lateral moraine of Rupal Glacier. Turn your backs for views of Nanga Parbat, Rupal and Laila Peaks. The camp site is at 4200m with few Junipar trees and a small water stream. (4/5 hours).

Day 12: Mazeno High Camp

Trek is comparatively steep. We ascending to the Mazeno glacier by the Mazeno Pass. The high base camp is at 4724meters. (5/6 hours).

Day 13: Mazeno Pass to Upper Loiba

Early morning start before sunrise. The climb up to the pass is not very difficult but other side of the pass is steep 250 stretch requiring rope, ice axe, sit harness and crampons. After crossing the pass Loiba glacier starts and we camp here at upper Loiba at a height of 4300m. (7/8 hours)

Day 14: Loiba-Meadows

Trek down from upper Loiba to Loiba Meadows. It is a comfortable walk through the lush green meadows and trees. Campsite consist of many shepherds houses at of 4000m. (3/4 hours).

Day 15: Meadows-Kachal

Today we will have beautiful views of Nanga Parbat and an easy trek through pine and birch trees. We cross Airil River and enter the Kachal summer settlement at the base of Kachal pass (4400m). We will camp at 3000m. (4/5 hours).

Day 16: Diamir base camp

At Kachal, four treks intersect, one to Kachal Pass, the second to Zangot, the third back to Loiba and the forth one to Diamer Base camp. We will take the gradually ascending Diamer Base camp, En route a short stay in Kutgali. Arrive Diamer Face base camp. The world`s most famous mountaineer Reinhold Messner climbed Nanga Parbat from this side in 1979 and he lost his brother during on their way back. It is reputed to be the most difficult route of Nanga Parbat. Short stay for exploration and photos. Walk back by the same route and camp at Zangot 4200m. (6/7 hours)

Day 17: Hala or Gilgit

Trek down to Diamer River to arrive at Dimroi. From Dimroi board a jeep and continued towards Gilgit, capital of Northern areas of Pakistan. Arrive Gilgit, transfer to hotel and enjoy a hot shower. (7/8 hours trek, 4 hours drive) Please note due to this year’s flooding the village road may be damaged. We expect that the road is fixed, however if this is not the case, we spend a night in Hala and travel the following day to Gilgit

Day 18: Gilgit

Full free day to relax in Gilgit city

Overnight in Panorama hotel (BLD)

Day 19: Gilgit Islamabad flight

In the morning, a short flight over the Himalaya and Karakorum Mountains to Islamabad Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel
Overnight in Hunza Embassy Lodge (BLD)

Please note the flight from Gilgit to Islamabad is subject to weather; in-case of flight cancellation we will drive on the Karakorum highway to Besham which is half way to Islamabad

Day 20: Islamabad

Free day for relaxation
Or in-case of flight cancellation we will drive from Besham to Islamabad this day.

Day 21: Onward flight
Our service will end after airport transfer (B)
